Buy in Bulk - Bolts of Fabric! - Etsy

Okay, for those who make clothing, blankets, toys, etc. here is a list of places you can buy bolts of fabric! (Note: I suggest reading the customer reviews before purchase and note some may require you to purchase large quantities)

I love using google and I am always using the search engine to find interesting things. Today I used my skills to dig up a few places where you can purchase bolts of fabric in bulk!

  1. Bulk Fabric - Joann
  2. In Weave Fabric - Wholesale Bolts
  3. Denver Fabrics - Bolts
  4. Ebay - Fabric Bolt
  5. Fabric Depot
  6. Dharma Trading
  7. Modes 4 U
  8. Fabric 4 Less
  9. Amazon - Check out their selections
  10. Buy Fabrics
  11. Vogue Fabrics Store

I hope these help and I always encourage people to give google a try. Use keyword phrases such as "discount fabric bolt" or "wholesale fabric bolt" or "where to buy bulk fabric bolts", etc. If you type in the right keywords, then you will find an near limited less supply of things you will need.

It is Friday again! - Time for some product show off!

W.P. Artisans - Handmade Jewelry, etc.!

Before I get into my product show off, if you are an Etsy seller... post your shop links in the comment section below. Starting next week, I will be doing showcases of items off of Etsy. This will be once per week show off and it will be at least 1 shop per week. I will pick up to 3 items and show case them here!

Okay, today I am going to post a few items from my shop. For those who like strange or odd pieces, take a look at these below:

Each piece has their unique qualities about them. The top piece is very unique. I made each swirl by hand and then created the beaded drops. I was inspired by a lot of Egyptian style jewelry and wanted to try my hand at something abstract.

The next piece is a little "hodgepodge" type of pendant necklace. Each piece was a separate item and I used industrial strength glue to create this cute pendant.

The final piece was inspired by tribal and ethnic style jewelry. I wanted to bring those to cultures together in one pieces. I love how all the colors and wooden beads come together to make this prideful necklace.

Today I want to share - Etsy Stuff

Before I get into sharing, I suggest... no... I HIGHLY suggest joining the Facebook group Thriving on Etsy! The people there are wonderful and the admin is always encouraging people to challenge themselves. I usually start my day reading some posts on various FB groups and this one post struck a cord with me. It is something I strongly believe in. If you have a moment, join the group, and read this post: It Takes Work

I want to share with you a little about the experiences I been having on Etsy. Which kind of fits into the topic of that FB post. This June I will be on Etsy for 1 solid year. I have been working on and off to make my shop during this time. At one point I took 3-4 months off to re-think my shop and really figure out why I wasn't making much success. It frustrated me to no end when I saw people with high sales, views, etc. I kept scratching my chin, my head, and really feeling worthless.

Then I realized... I wasn't doing something right. I had to start over. It was hard and I cried (not going to lie) that I had to begin again. I started with my product. I started mulling over why my jewelry wasn't standing out. Then, I began to re-photograph everything. After that, I re-did all my SEO, my descriptions, etc. However, I still have work to do. There is still listing that need improvements. More pictures need to be taken, etc.

That is right, it takes work. I wish there was an easier way or answer, but there is not. You must work, show determination, and not give up. As the old saying goes, "When you fall off the horse, get back in the saddle." You can't just give up half way. You must show you are determined to work at it and get it right!

It is okay to create other products and try new things. Companies develop new things and test them all the time. Why not should you? If what you create doesn't work... try something else.

My husband is all the time telling me I haven't found my "niche" market yet. Keep making things and I will eventually find what people will buy. It is his way of saying, "don't give up". You shouldn't either.

Etsy is like the story of "The Little Engine That Could". If you haven't heard of the story, I would suggest reading up on it. It is a great story about what you can do if you just put your mind to it! My mother has always told me "I can". I believe her. It will take work, but one day I will succeed. Just got to use a little elbow grease.

So, don't feel down or get upset. Walk away for a few days, breathe, and re-think things. Relax for a while, read a book, take a walk, etc. Clear your mind of all the negative things and focus on the positive. Then get back in there and start from the beginning. Work on things that need changing. Work on your photos. Work on your advertising skills. Success doesn't happen over night and if you don't mind taking the long road... then don't give up!

Popular Search Phrases? - Hmmm...

Okay, I was doing some polls for future material and I ended up getting an option added. Which was, "Popular Search Phrases". Now, this got me to thinking. Phrases are keywords. Keywords are important to SEO. You need strong SEO to be found in search. For those still struggling with SEO, check out my blog post on SEO. As this gives tips on how to use tools in your effort to understanding SEO.

Basically, popular search phrases are part of SEO. Now, I am sure you didn't want to read that, but it is true! Search phrases are keywords people use to find items on Etsy. There is no true "popular search phrases" like their is popular hastags on Instagram and Twitter. I know this is not what you wanted to read either, but Etsy is based on a search algorithm. That algorithm drives people to your shop based on "search phrases".

Now then, search phrases are different PER category on Etsy. Yes, that is right! That means there is 1,000s of word choices out there, but if you are struggling to understand what people use to find you... here is a few tips on a way to get some good keywords in your tags and titles:

1.] Do some research on Etsy. That means, look up items in search that are similar to yours. Try different keywords and see what comes up. If items show, write those words down (or type them in notepad, etc.). Then use those keywords in your tags and titles. In as many combination of phrases as you can. It is a good rule of thumb to put something that is used in a lot of tags and titles. For example, "beaded bracelet" is a very competitive category and phrase. However, it is also needed as a phrase if you sell beaded bracelets. It is a more typed in search phrase than something like round glass bead bracelet or looks like marbles bracelet.

2.] Look at shops similar to yours. You can browse some more popular shops within your category and see how they do their Tags, Titles, and Descriptions. Don't just copy and paste. Use this as a guide to help get some ideas for your keywords and use them.

3.] Check out the Seller Handbook. Things are updated in there pretty regular now. You can find this helpful article there: How To Get Found In Search - Etsy

4.] Check out this area for Treasuries and possible keywords you can use: Treasury "Today's Trending Tags" is a good section to look in for tags that can be relevant to your item(s).

Those should help you in finding phrases that will work for you. Remember, "search phrases" are a part of good SEO. There is no magical phrase to get your shop found. As much as I wish there was. Just hard work, good SEO, and a determination not to give up!

I work at SEO every day. I have nearly been on Etsy for nearly one solid year. My shop doesn't get 100s of views per day, but in recent months I have been showing up in search. Because I have spent the last few months really working on SEO, good photos, tags, titles, etc. Your shop is your business and I assure you must work at a business to get it to pay off. Don't let that scare you, but let's face facts shall we? If you want your shop found, you must work at it. That means doing research, using the tools that are out there, and then applying them.

I hope this article helped and here is the link to my blog post about SEO: Etsy SEO, Tools You Will Need

ETSY NEWS - Posted May 16th

According to Etsy:

"We’re beginning a test that will affect how buyers view items on your shop homepage on the web. Currently, buyers scroll through your first 24 items, and then have the option to to view ‘More items’ or ‘View all items’. Clicking ‘More items’ allows the buyer to load and scroll through the next set of 24 items, while a paginated view of 96 items per page will appear after clicking ‘View all items’.
While we’re testing, some of you will only see the option to ‘View all items’ when you reach the end of the first set of items. This will bring you to the paginated view of all the shop’s items, where you can continue to browse. We heard from some of you that continuous scrolling while loading more items isn’t ideal on older web browsers, and doesn’t allow buyers to keep track of where they are while browsing.
Throughout this test, we will be tracking buyer behavior, and monitoring all metrics related to your shop and sales. This kind of testing helps us gain confidence in which experience is best for your buyers. We’ll keep you updated throughout the duration, and will let you know if we change anything about how buyers navigate your shops permanently."

More to Etsy than just SEO!?

You have probably seen my posts about SEO, Branding, and a few other tidbits of information in random posts. Today I am going to touch on other areas of Etsy that you need to be aware of. (I could write a book about all of this really!) Those areas are as follows: Photos, Descriptions, New Listings, Renewing, and Having X Amount of Items.

I will be going more in depth on Photography, but let me just mention a few things today. Photos are what catches people eyes. Ever been window shopping and a display in a window catch your eye? Your photos need to do the same thing. You need to grab a potential customer's eye and draw them into your shop! There is some mechanics involved in taking good photos and I will be discussing this next week. In the meantime, do a little research and see how you can improve your photos. I use a cell phone and I can catch some good pictures. So, I know you can too!

Descriptions are a "yay or nay" for a potential buyer. If the description doesn't have "what they need", then a buyer might not hit that purchase button. In my humble opinion, you will need at least these three major things in your description: Measurement, Materials, and Solution.

Measurement is the size of the item. For example, Size - 32 inch waist. This gives potential buyers the information they need to whether the item will fit their person or not. Also, it is a good rule of thumb, if you make your items in a variety of sizes, to make sure you have that in the "variation" portion with the drop down menu. It gives a potential buyer the option of selecting their size and getting you a sale.

Materials is another big one. People want to know what it is made of. Some have allergies and want to know if said item will harm them in some way. Also, you can brag here about using certain materials. Such as silver or rose gold or even certain gemstones.

Solution to a problem makes people want to buy. Ever seen some infomercials? They show you a problem and how their product is the solution. If your product can be a solution, people are more likely to want to buy it. For example, "This eco-friendly dust mop will catch dust and allergens in your home! Best off all... it is machine wash safe and will last for several uses!". Give people a reason to purchase your product.

Next topic is making more product. If you can, make more product and start posting 1-2 two listing per day or every other day. You will find this keeps you relevant in Etsy search. While Etsy did change some things with their search, you can start doing this to help keep you in the pages. IF you can't come up with any more products or you have 100s of items all ready, there is another way you can stay relevant.

Renewing your products is another way to stay relevant. It costs a measly 20 cents per item and you can take your under performing items, renew them and stay in good standing on Etsy. This helps you in searches and keeps you active on Etsy. This is no secret on Etsy and it is a must if you want to get found and sell your products. I would suggest doing this at least once to twice a week until you start getting in loyal customers and selling your products on a regular basis.

Another thing that hurts you is having to few items. No one wants to stop in a store with 20 or less items. There isn't enough variety. So, no matter how good your SEO, photos, etc. if you don't have enough product.. this might be why you are not getting found or getting sales. There is no magical number out there that says "have this and get buyers", but a good rule of thumb is to have around 80-100 different products.

By different I mean varied or items with different uses, etc. I make jewelry. So, I do product lines. Recently I finished a line of memory wire bracelets. I made about 12 different bracelets, but they were all on memory wire. Doing this allows people a variety to choose from and this way they can pick their favorite and make a purchase. So, having a good variety of items is key and so is having a LOT of items.

Don't get discouraged! Use your down time, your off days, and/or your vacation time to make more product! Then take good photos, use your SEO skills, etc. and get more items in your shop! More variety equals more sales!

Oh and one more thing! Do research in your area of products. Make sure you get a feel for prices. Then price accordingly. Of course don't sell yourself short! Make sure you take into effect your labor, materials, and fees (this includes shipping and shipping materials)! Then stand behind your prices. ;)

Remember, next week I will be discussing photography. Until then, happy sales!

What is Branding? How you can use it on Etsy...

I was debating whether I wanted to touch on this subject today, but realizing my schedule for the rest of the week is going to be busy... lead me to this blog post today. So, without further adieu, here is the grand topic for this week: Branding!

The best definition of branding is as follows: "the promotion of a particular product or company by means of advertising and distinctive design." This of course being a Google definition.

But, what does that mean?

Branding is essentially in the rawest form is your "mark". Kind of like a specific logo or image. For example, when you think about McDonalds.. what do you think of? The golden "M" right? This is basically McDonalds "brand" or "branding". You know you are at this fast food restaurant when you see those bright yellow arches.

This same concept goes for when you are branding your shop. You need to pick a logo that will stand as your brand. Something people can associate with you and your product. It doesn't have to reflective of what you do or theme of products you make, but if you like that kind of branding.. go for it!

To give a better example of "branding", here is my shop logo:

You will notice it has my shop name and an image in the background. This is the brand I want people to associate with my shop. So when they see a wolf howling, they will think of my shop!

Also, it is a good rule of thumb not to change your brand very often. Doing so confuses people and they may begin to wonder who you are and what your shop represents. Unless of course you are going under a complete re-branding. Re-branding your shop isn't a bad thing! Several people have been re-branding their shops lately. With the changes on Etsy, it makes it easier to showcase your brand, what you are about, and gets people closer to your product. Use this chance to show them who you are and find a brand to really stand out!

Of course there is more to branding than what I have described. For those who are more visual, here is some images I found off google to help better explain branding:

Of course if this doesn't help, here is a couple of links to images that might help break things down a bit:

Brand Details - This has some really neat information!
Brand Colors - Need some color ideas for your brand? Check this out!

Of course if you google anything to do with branding you will find several great sources of information. From name to colors to how to make your brand work for you, etc.

I love using google to research things and find new sources of information. It is a great tool and highly suggest using it when and where you can. If you are a mobile user, use anything you can at your fingertips to get a grasp on branding. From groups on FB, Etsy Teams, the Seller Handbook, etc. All these places will be beneficial to you and help you... well.. become you!

Next week, I will be blogging about photography and how it is crucial in the online world when you are selling products!

Road To Success

Today's topic is about success. Success can come in many, many forms. Each of those should be considered a positive moment in your life. Whether you want to realize them or not. If you are not achieving success in a certain area, step back, breathe and try again. Success, while nice, doesn't come without work or a few lumps. I promise all those CEOs didn't get there without some success.

That being said, what are you doing to challenge yourself into a success?

If you sit there a moment and ponder the question you might be surprised at the answer. Sometimes we need to step back and look at things from another angle. Get a fresh perspective. If you are not achieving much success, then go back to the beginning and work over your shop, items, etc. Then go scope out your competition. See what makes them different from you. Once you do that, think of positive things about your shop, process, and items. What makes YOU different. Then use that as a weapon.

Sound simple right?

Really, it is. We have no one to blame but ourselves and our lack of confidence. However, we can over come this and let our positive selves shine! It is okay to tell people you tumble your own garden rocks to use in jewelry or art. It is okay to tell people you grow your own herbs for essential oils. People want these details! Tell them what you do and why you are passionate. You will be surprised at how quickly people will connect with you and want to purchase your products.

Rome wasn't built over night and neither is success. You must work at your dream. As much as we all love instant gratification, it doesn't happen.. often. Some people do make a good splash on Etsy and others have to work at it. It all boils down to target market (age group of the people you want to sell too) and what you are selling. If your personal story and process doesn't click with people, then start taking pictures in different ways. Try setting up modeling sessions (get your cute friends to help you!). Try making descriptions sound like people need this product in their lives and why it is a solution to their problems. People like useful items. Use that to your advantage!

Success will eventually come, but don't be disappointed if you are not pulling in 100s of dollars. Even if you only make a small amount your first few sales... challenge yourself to do more and to do better! Learn with each small success and turn them into large ones.

Moral of the story?

Don't beat yourself up because over one small success. Pat yourself on the back and up the ante! Next time, it might be that big success you dream of!

Finding What Is Trending....

This is going to be a rather laid back post. As I was researching for blogging material. Yes, I even research for something to blog about! I know I repeat this a lot, but it is key if you want to get a handle on Etsy and owning a small business. For not all of us are born with a business person mindset. Some, like myself, have to work and do a lot of research.

Well, let me get on to the point, yes?

I was looking for "trending" products both on and off Etsy. This gives me ideas and inspiration to add new products to my shop. It also gives me an idea of what people want. In my case, I make jewelry. I am always pushing the envelope of what I can and can not make. I wish I was able to create higher end jewelry (real gold and silver pieces), but sometimes we are not all blessed with ways to get a hold of rarer metals, gems, and gemstones. That being said, I don't let that get me down! I strive to come up with unique ideas (sometimes a bit bizarre ones) and try them out. You never know what will strike someone as beautiful, unique, or trendy. Sometimes it takes just one item to really set your business into high gear.

So... for those that struggle to find something to create for their shop... here is a few tips:

1.] Use google! - Google Trends is sometimes a good place to start or just Google in general. If you type in something like "trending jewelry" or "trending clothes", you might be surprised at what pops up!

2.] Use other online selling apps/websites! - I find this to be a great tool. You can look for popular items and see what people are really purchasing. This can give you an edge in competition.

3.] Subscribe to "trending network" sites! - These can actually be useful. People often blog about what movie stars wore or what items seem to be really popping up all over.

These can be very useful when you want to really sink your teeth into the trending marketplace. I recently discovered this myself (took me long enough, eh?), but I am all ready using it to brainstorm ideas for my own shop! So, I hope this helps you too and really gets you thinking outside the box!

Until next time, Happy Sales!

It is Friday! Time for a little "product show off"!

Wolf Pack Artisans - Handmade jewelry and more!

I am going to blog about a few of our products each Friday. This way you guys can see what new stuff is happening and get to see some of our creative process! I hope you are excited! Because I know I am!

First, let me show off something I am working on:

I was inspired by Egyptian Prince Necklaces and came up with this little piece. I was going to make a full Prince Necklace, but loved how this turned out so much that I decided to leave it alone. The Scarab there is completely handmade. Using wire wrap and beading techniques. I fell in love with the colors and bead pattern. I am thinking of adding some other accessories with the necklace and selling it as a set!

Second, let me introduce you to some of our more trendy products:

We make a variety of memory wire wrap bracelets. This one was made with nautical or beach themes in mind. It is beaded with various shell, pearl, and wooden beads. I added a few nautical charms for a bit of flare!

Of course we do carry other styles! From high fashion to boho to anything in between! Just visit the link above and check out some of our other products.

What is in a name?

Okay, I am sure you are wondering what W.P. Artisans is. Or maybe how the name came to be. Let me tell you a small story.

Once upon a time, there is was a young woman with dreams of owning a Etsy Shop. She started off with a silly name of "TJS old to new". Because at the time she didn't know what a name was or how a good name could set her apart. For a long time she went by this name and suddenly she realized... as much as she liked to "up cycle" old jewelry... she loved creating more. However, she didn't know how to change her name to reflect her over all business. Luckily she had some great friends on FB and gave her some advice. That is when W.P. Artisans was born!

But, what does W.P. stand for? It simply stands for "Wolf Pack". Since my family helps out with my shop, it is only natural to call us a "Pack". For like a pack, we work together to make things happen. I also love wolf themed things and I wanted to make my shop more personal without sounding really silly. Plus, I wanted to stand out. Make people wonder and think about my shop. I wanted a name that kind of would stick with you.

That is basically how we came to be. So now you know what W.P. stands for. *winks*

Etsy SEO! - Tools You Will Need

Definition of SEO: according to google it is defined as - "Search engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) -- including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines."

Okay, first let me be frank with you. I work at SEO every day. Yes, every day. Why? Because words "trend" and that means words like bodacious or wassup might not apply any more. But what does that mean when it comes to Etsy SEO? Well, this blog will link you to some very helpful tools to TEACH you what SEO is and how to master it. Do you need to pay for this? Nope! It is free and helpful advice to get you started on good SEO!

First, you must do your research! I know, you are thinking "awww... can't you just like.. do magic and it magically works over night?". Sadly, this is not how this works. Many seem to forget you must work at SEO to get it right and make it work for you. Yes, that means spending time doing research and then applying that research to your listings. Yes, you could spend money to get people to do this for you. In fact, it is a business that has sprung up since Etsy has really took off. You can find people right and left that advertise "pay x amount and get SEO done", etc. If you have that kind of money to spend, by all means... use those people. They get paid to do what you CAN do for free! Yes, free! That is if you don't mind taking the time and work at SEO. If you have the time and patience... read on. Otherwise go search Etsy for someone to do your SEO for you.

Okay, made it this far in the blog? Good for you! Now let me share a few secrets with you.

Where can you find good research material? Youtube is a popular place and it is a great tool to help you get started. There is 100s of videos out there on Etsy SEO. Below are a few links to some more popular channels:

RichMomBusiness
dansafkow - Going to include him, because I think he has some really neat ideas!
southerncharmwreaths
Etsy SEOTalk

There is literally 100s of channels that talk about Etsy SEO, but I do believe these channels will be the most helpful. Because Etsy did change some things with their search back in 2015. So, I would suggest looking at all videos after October of 2015. This is when the new stuff was being added, etc. Personally, I would look at videos around January of 2016 and up. As these would be the most current.

Also, for your research, I would suggest going over to Google and typing something like "Etsy SEO" or "Etsy SEO help" or even "Current Etsy SEO help". As these will pull up all kinds of blogs, articles, etc. to help in your research. Even the Etsy Seller Handbook. Which has loads of helpful information. I would suggest reading the handbook at least once a week. Etsy has really started changing and adding new information there!

Secondly, there is some really nice free website tools you can use! Some may require to pay a monthly fee to use their advance settings, but their free tools are great if you need keyword ideas. What are keywords? Keywords are your money makers. Basically words that will get your shop found!

Okay, ready for some neat websites? Below is a few that I have found and each has some really nice tools:

Marmalead - You have to pay a monthly fee to use their advance settings, but they do have a free keyword tool that is very helpful.
Etsy Rank - A free website with a load of tools! My favorite section is the critique area and color trend.
Moz.com - Tools - This website has some nice free tools you can use as well.

These will help you get your foot in the door and get you more acquainted with SEO. I would suggest using all the websites above daily or as often as needed. Because things change at the drop of a hat!

Finally, find you some great groups on social media and stick with them. They will be your glue, your friends, and will help you with your shop. One thing I absolutely love about Etsy is the community of people and how helpful they are. Yes, you will run into a few rotten maters (southern for tomato), but overall there is some really great people out there.

I suggest joining a few Facebook groups. A couple of my favorite places are:

Thriving on Etsy! - Love the admin there. Super sweet and always has something to share!
We Need To Succeed & A-Team - A very warm and welcoming group of people. They are always very helpful!

Of course there is Etsy teams you can join too that are wonderful. We Need To Succeed and A-Team both have Etsy team pages on Etsy. Look them up and join them!

After doing all the research, what now? Well, you need to learn how to use those keywords correctly. Where they need to go and how best to use them on your listing/item. Which is another whole different discussion, but let me give you the short answer here:

On your Etsy listing/item (where you add your listing) you will have these key areas to use your SEO skills. They are:

Title
Description
Tags

Title, you have x amount of characters to use. I would suggest using commas to separate your keyword phrases (yes phrases). Such as: Blue beaded chunky necklace. That is a keyword phrase. People search phrases, not words.

Description, put your soul into this area. Include your keywords (or phrases) where it sounds correctly and make sure you sound like.. well.. you. People want solutions and want to know your soul. Let this be the area you shine at! Also, make sure you include a link back to your store front and maybe a link to an in store search (your store of course!) of similar products. Keeps people in your shop longer.

Tags, use all 13 tags. All of them! I can't stress this enough! Also, make sure the keywords and phrases you use in your titles are in your tags too! If your title keywords don't make 13 tags, do some research and add in phrases or word combos that people would likely use to find your items. Think of what you would search for and add it. You may be surprised at what gets your found!

ALL of this information is at your fingertips and free! Now, use these tools and go out there and get to work on your SEO!
